DEVELOPMENT

Building Eden in Public

Journey to Eden isn't being created behind the closed doors of a large game studio.

There isn't an enormous development team.

There isn't a multimillion-dollar budget.

There isn't a building filled with programmers, artists, writers, composers and designers.

At least not yet.

There is an idea.

There is a computer.

There is artificial intelligence.

There is one person determined to see how far they can go.

And there is a date circled on the calendar:

DECEMBER 25, 2026

Our goal is to create the first playable Journey to Eden experience and open the Garden to the world on Christmas Day.

And we're going to share the journey.

AN EXPERIMENT IN WHAT IS NOW POSSIBLE

Something extraordinary is happening.

For most of the history of video games, creating even a relatively small game required specialized skills across many disciplines.

Programming.

Game design.

Animation.

Illustration.

3D modelling.

Sound design.

Music.

Writing.

User-interface design.

Testing.

Production.

Those skills still matter enormously.

But artificial intelligence is beginning to change who can participate in the creative process.

A person no longer necessarily has to know how to do everything.

Perhaps they need to know something different:

What they want to create.

Journey to Eden is partly an experiment in that possibility.

Can someone with a powerful idea but without a traditional background in game development use AI to help transform imagination into a playable world?

We're going to find out.

ROSS + EINSTEIN

Journey to Eden is being developed by Ross Harvey, working alongside his AI creative collaborator, Einstein — his name for ChatGPT.

Ross brings the vision.

The life experience.

The questions.

The stories.

The philosophy.

The decisions.

And, perhaps most importantly, the dream.

Einstein helps transform those ideas into structure.

Game systems.

World-building.

Characters.

Dialogue.

Development plans.

Visual concepts.

Technical approaches.

Documentation.

Testing strategies.

And eventually, where the tools permit, pieces of the game itself.

It isn't human or artificial intelligence.

It is an experiment in what may become increasingly common:

Human imagination amplified by artificial intelligence.

WE ARE NOT GAME DEVELOPERS

And that may be one of the most interesting parts of this story.

Ross didn't spend decades programming games.

He isn't sitting at a workstation writing thousands of lines of code from memory.

He doesn't have a large development studio behind him.

We are learning.

Researching.

Experimenting.

Making mistakes.

Changing direction.

Trying again.

And documenting what works.

That matters because Journey to Eden isn't only an experiment in creating this game.

It is also an experiment in whether the tools now becoming available can allow millions of other people to create the games living inside their imaginations.

THE CHRISTMAS CHALLENGE

We have given ourselves a wonderfully unreasonable challenge.

Create the first playable Journey to Eden experience by Christmas Day 2026.

Not the entire world.

Not the City.

Not every character, creature, community and system imagined for the future.

The Garden.

One small, beautiful, living introduction to what Journey to Eden could become.

Something people can enter.

Explore.

Interact with.

Listen to.

Care for.

And hopefully leave wanting more.

THE ROAD TO CHRISTMAS

PHASE ONE — THE FOUNDATION

September 2026

Define the heart of Journey to Eden.

The purpose.

The player experience.

The world.

The rules.

The visual language.

The emotional tone.

The central mechanics.

And one essential question:

What must someone experience in the first few minutes to understand why Journey to Eden is different?

PHASE TWO — DESIGN THE GARDEN

Late September – October 2026

Turn the idea into a specific playable world.

Map the Garden.

Define its paths.

Water.

Plants.

Creatures.

Interactive objects.

Discoveries.

Sounds.

Music.

Characters.

Small mysteries.

And the changes that occur because of the player's choices.

This is where Eden stops being merely an idea.

It begins becoming a place.

PHASE THREE — BUILD

October – November 2026

Create the playable experience.

Piece by piece.

Environment by environment.

Interaction by interaction.

We will combine the tools available to us with AI-assisted development wherever it genuinely helps.

Some ideas will work immediately.

Others won't.

Some things we imagine may prove too ambitious for the first release.

If so, we simplify.

The objective isn't to cram every idea into Version 1.

The objective is to make the Garden feel alive.

PHASE FOUR — PLAY

November – December 2026

Then comes one of the most important stages.

Play it.

Break it.

Get lost.

Try things we never expected players to try.

Ask other people to experience it.

Watch where they struggle.

Notice where they smile.

Discover what they understand without explanation — and what they don't.

Then improve it.

Again.

And again.

And again.

PHASE FIVE — OPEN THE GATE

December 25, 2026

Christmas morning.

The Garden opens.

Not as the conclusion of Journey to Eden.

As its beginning.

WHAT MAKES THE FIRST RELEASE SUCCESSFUL?

Not the size of the map.

Not the number of hours required to complete it.

Not the number of features.

Not technological spectacle.

We will consider our first Garden successful if someone enters it...

becomes curious...

slows down...

discovers something...

cares about something...

and leaves feeling a little different than when they arrived.

If one person finishes playing and looks at the real world around them with slightly more wonder...

Eden has already begun.

SMALL IS NOT A COMPROMISE

Modern games can contain enormous worlds.

Thousands of characters.

Hundreds of hours of gameplay.

Extraordinary visual detail.

Journey to Eden may eventually grow enormously too.

But our first Garden doesn't need to be enormous.

It needs to be meaningful.

We would rather create one unforgettable path than a hundred empty ones.

One creature you genuinely care about rather than fifty you barely notice.

One moment of discovery that stays with you rather than endless things to collect.

One Garden that feels alive.

Small can be beautiful.

THE TOOLS WILL CHANGE

This project is being created during one of the fastest periods of technological change in history.

AI tools that seem extraordinary today may look primitive a year from now.

New capabilities will appear while we are building.

Some will help us.

Some will distract us.

Our approach is simple:

Use technology when it serves the experience.

Not because something is new.

Not because something is impressive.

Not because everyone is talking about it.

But because it helps us create a more beautiful, meaningful, accessible Journey to Eden.

The technology is not the story.

What we create with it is.

WHEN WE NEED HELP, WE WILL ASK

Artificial intelligence can do remarkable things.

It cannot do everything.

There may be moments when Journey to Eden needs expertise beyond what we can accomplish ourselves.

Programming.

Game-engine development.

Animation.

Sound.

Accessibility.

Testing.

Performance optimization.

Distribution.

Security.

Or something we haven't even encountered yet.

When that happens, we won't pretend otherwise.

We'll find people who know what we don't.

The goal was never to prove that one person can do absolutely everything.

The goal is to discover:

How much more can one person create when the right tools — and the right people — become available?

THE MISTAKES ARE PART OF THE STORY

We are going to get things wrong.

We may spend a day building something and throw it away the next morning.

An idea that sounds wonderful on paper may be terrible when played.

An AI tool may produce something hilarious instead of useful.

A feature we consider essential today may disappear entirely before Christmas.

Good.

That is creation.

We're not interested in pretending the process is effortless.

We want to show what actually happens when an idea becomes a world.

The experiments.

The failures.

The breakthroughs.

The surprises.

The moments when we have absolutely no idea what to do next.

And the moments when suddenly...

there it is.

FOLLOW THE BUILD

This page will evolve as Journey to Eden does.

We will share important milestones.

Concept artwork.

World designs.

Music.

Experiments.

Screenshots.

Development discoveries.

Playable ideas.

Problems we encounter.

Solutions we find.

And perhaps a few spectacular failures along the way.

As Christmas approaches, you'll be able to watch the Garden take shape.

Not after everything is finished.

While it is happening.

AN OPEN INVITATION TO DREAMERS

Perhaps you have a game inside you too.

Or a movie.

A book.

A song.

A business.

A community project.

An invention.

Something you have carried around for years because you believed you lacked the money, training, connections or technical ability to create it.

Journey to Eden is partly for you.

We don't know exactly how far these new tools can take one person's imagination.

That's why we're doing this.

And whatever we learn along the way...

we want to share.

DAY ONE

Every enormous world once existed only inside someone's imagination.

Journey to Eden is there right now.

Part dream.

Part design.

Part experiment.

And increasingly...

something real.

Between now and Christmas, we are going to build.

One idea at a time.

One problem at a time.

One discovery at a time.

One little piece of Eden at a time.

And on December 25, 2026...

we hope to open the gate.
